Background
Learning about underwater explosions sounds like a dream come true for many a curious schoolboy. It turns out that this kind of situation actually offers lots of opportunities for studying advanced applications of mathematical models and numerical methods, bringing in questions about the interactions of structures and fluids, convection, fluid dynamics and more, with applications for military and other underwater operations. Michael Sprague is taking advantage of these learning opportunities and can provide expert commentary on underwater explosions and related problems. He is also heavily involved with developing graduate and undergraduate mathematics programs at UC Merced.
